Avannaata Kommunia has formed the company Visit Ilulissat to coordinate and strengthen tourism around the city, where a new international airport is planned to open later this year.
On February 1, businessman Karsten Høy was appointed as director of Visit Ilulissat, the municipality announced on its website.
"Ilulissat is a huge brand. People know the city, and there is enormous potential both for tourism and for creating good, lasting jobs, including for young people," says Karsten Høy, who will lead the effort.
Karsten Høy grew up in Ilulissat, and he says that it is like coming home:
"It feels like coming home. That is why it is very important to me that we ensure a strong local anchoring in the further development. The local players must have their fair share of the value creation," says the new director.
Working with business promotion is no stranger to Karsten Høy, as he headed the self-government's business promotion company, Nalik Ventures, for 15 years until 2023.
Since 2023, he has been the director of Greenland Ruby for a short period, among other things.
"Developing business in Greenland requires patience, dialogue and cross-functional cooperation. It is in my bones," says Karsten Høy.
