Help for fishermen in the north and east with attractive subsidies

The Greenland Government is planning significant improvements when it comes to subsidies for new or old fishing vessels for fishermen in Qaanaaq and East Greenland.

Fishing must be strengthened in the outer districts. That is the goal, and the central element of an order that has just been sent for consultation by the Greenland Government.

In relation to the general rules in the legislation, the subsidy scheme will be improved in the following way and in light of the different vessel sizes:

Another and important element is the requirement for the subsidy that the fisherman himself must contribute. Thus, only 2 percent of the money will be paid for vessels between 6 and 9.5 meters l.o.a. And five percent for vessels over 9.5 meters, where up until now there has been a requirement for a 10 percent self-payment.

The hearing deadline is set for March 9.
