The Australian mineral resources company Energy Transition Minerals, which has filed a lawsuit against the self-government in the case of Kuannersuit, is currently busy moving activities to the United States.
In early January, the company announced that it had entered into an agreement with the American investment bank Cohen & Capitol Market with the aim of investigating whether the company could be listed on the US stock exchange. And most recently, the company has switched to the law and lobbying firm Ballard Partners with the aim of "strengthening American ties and improving its position as a forward-looking supplier of critical minerals that the US demands"
Will expand engagement in the US
The new partnership is stated in a recent stock exchange announcement from the company, where CEO Daniel Mamadou is quoted as saying that it is crucial to have leading specialists when looking to expand your engagement with American stakeholders.
“The appointment of U.S. public administration experts will help ensure we have the right support to navigate regulatory and investor relations, accelerate our engagement in North America, and advance our international strategy,” it said.
Ballard Partners is considered a very powerful American law and lobbying firm with close ties to the Trump administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has worked for Ballard Partners for several years. In addition, the company has several of the major tech giants such as Amazon and Meta as clients.
Tailwind to the trial
A professor of financial management at Aalborg University assesses that the American interest is about gaining a foothold in the lawsuit and potentially an extraction permit.
– You might ask, what is it that they need strategic advice in the USA for? They are running a lawsuit in Greenland. The only reasonable explanation is that the company sees a potential link to American interests, so that they can get a windfall for their lawsuit and perhaps an extraction permit for Kuannersuit. If Greenland ends up being taken over by the USA, then one could well imagine that the company will be allowed to extract minerals. And that is probably what they are hoping for, says Per Nikolaj Bukh, adding that if they have also allied themselves with a lobbying firm that has close ties to the Trump administration, then that is extra good.
Energy Transition Minerals' demands are that they will be allowed to continue the project at Kuannersuit towards an exploitation permit. Alternatively, they are seeking 76 billion kroner in compensation.
