The meeting was held in Katuaq in Nuuk, where more than 65 business leaders attended. The purpose of Nuuk Forum is to create better dialogue between the municipality and the business community.
The purpose of the meeting was, among other things, the start of a joint process on how to develop the business areas in Nuuk more strategically, ensure close cooperation between businesses and municipalities and plan in a long-term and sustainable manner.
- It is crucial that we have a close and open dialogue with the business community when we are going to plan the business areas of the future in Nuuk. Input from the business community is necessary for us to make the right decisions and create realistic and sustainable solutions, says the head of planning and authority in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, Runa Sværd.
Future needs discussed
The mayor of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, Avaaraq Olsen (IA), welcomed the meeting participants. The municipality then presented the status of the current business areas and the rules and frameworks for, among other things, planning, ownership and infrastructure.
The participants worked in workshops divided by industry. They talked about the challenges and discussed future needs, such as where business areas should be located, access conditions, infrastructure, and therefore also rules and conditions. Finally, the most important points were collected and shared with everyone.
Input from the meeting will be used in further work. The consulting firm Rambøll, together with the municipality, will prepare a comprehensive proposal for future commercial areas in Nuuk.
