As usual, Greenland is strongly represented at the world's largest mineral fair PDAC (Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada) in Toronto, which will run from 1-4 March 2026.

Kick-off event

On Sunday, the record-breaking delegation was invited to a kick-off meeting, where both the Danish ambassador to Canada Nikolaj Harris and the members of Naalakkersuisut Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA) and Peter Borg (D) were present.

SERMITSIAQ IS AT THE CONFERENCE

Sermitsiaq is present at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference this year.

The mineral fair is the world's largest, and 27,000-30,000 participants are expected. The fair takes place from 1-4 March. This is the 10th time that the Government of Greenland, in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industry and the Greenland Chamber of Commerce, has organized a business promotion at PDAC in Toronto.

In the coming days, Sermitsiaq will publish a number of articles focusing on Greenland's business community and the mining industry.

The two mayors Lars Erik Gabrielsen (S) from Avannaata Kommunia and Malene Vahl Rasmussen (D) from Kujalleq had also made the trip across the Atlantic to participate in the conference.

The same was said by members of the Business and Mineral Resources Committee in Inatsisartut; Mariane Paviasen (IA), Hans-Erik Enoksen (D), Lars Poulsen (S) and alternate Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen (A).

Geopolitical awareness

The keynote speech at the kick-off event was given by Greenland's Head of Mission in the USA and Canada, Jacob Isbosethsen, who put into words the importance of the geopolitical awareness of Greenland. – For Greenlandic companies, the geopolitical visibility means increased interest, but also increased expectations of you for professionalism, transparency and strategic awareness.

– Security policy and business policy are no longer separate tracks, said Jacob Isbosethsen, among others, who also stated that Greenland is not overlooked, but rather taken seriously.

According to Jacob Isbosethsen, the past year has not only been a strategically intense task, but also difficult on a human level. – Not least for many of you back home in Greenland: The uncertainty, the many announcements, the speculation, and the pressure that comes when one's country is referred to as property that can be taken. It also affects companies, investors, employees and their families. Security policy and business policy are no longer separate tracks, said Jacob Isbosethsen, among others, who also stated that Greenland is not being overlooked, but rather taken seriously.

– Governments around the world are listening to us. They follow our decisions and statements. And with that arise both opportunities and challenges. This means that we must all act responsibly.
