Uilu Pedersen and illustrator Susanne Jensen can rejoice in yet another nomination for their children's book Pilu – an adventurous and poetic tale about courage, self-confidence and finding one's own path, where fear can be turned into strength.

Last year, the book was nominated for the Nordic Council's Children's and Youth Literature Prize without winning, but now there is a chance to win another prize; this time of 60,000 kroner, which will be awarded on August 31 in connection with the West Nordic Council's 42nd Annual Meeting in Iceland.

About the book Pilu writes West Nordic Council:

"The story is deeply rooted in Greenland's nature and culture, but its themes are universal. It draws on Greenlandic myths and legends, where the sea, mountains and wildlife play crucial roles, and at the same time it speaks to all children who doubt their own abilities."

Great honor

The nominations for Pilu are something of an honor for Uilu Pedersen, considering that Pilu is her debut book, published back in November 2024.

Uilu Pedersen, who grew up in Aasiaat in North Greenland, has a PhD in psychology and has lived in Nuuk since 2014, where she works as a psychologist. The beautiful and evocative illustrations are made by Susanne Jensen, who grew up in Nuuk. She is a trained educator and art therapist and lives in Nuuk, where she teaches children, among other things, visual arts.

The other two books that are among the nominees are:
