Rare sounds and well-structured melodies.
That's the recipe behind the Greenlandic album "Malungivara", which on Friday evening secured artists SIGU and Mike a distinguished honor.
They won the Prize of the Year at the Koda Awards in Nuuk.
Since 1991, Koda has presented awards at the Koda Awards, formerly the Greenland Prize, to Greenlandic composers and songwriters.
And this year is no exception.
- In turbulent and difficult times, it becomes even clearer how important it is to celebrate the music and artists that reflect Greenland's culture and identity, Koda's frontman Loui Törnqvist said about the awards ceremony earlier in February.
The Prize of the Year is awarded to the songwriter or composer who has released the year's best album. The prizes are given to albums released last year.
The jury praises SIGU and Mike's album for the well-crafted lyrics and solid listening experience - with a twist.
- You can clearly hear the high level of the musicians, and the album includes sounds that are rarely - or perhaps never - heard on other releases, says the jury.
There were also honors for the new talent Aleq at Friday's award ceremony.
He received the Talent Prize for his album "Inuunerma Hinningani", where he sings in his own dialect.
- Aleqatsiaq (Aleq, ed.) is from the Avanersuaq area, and there are not many artists from the area in our country, says the jury in its justification.
The talent award is given every year to a new talented composer, songwriter or band.
The album from Aleq is praised for its very special, clear and distinct sounds as well as lyrics and melody, which are performed as if they were made for the Avanersuaq area.
- With willpower and professionalism, as well as dedication to the recording of the album, Aleqatsiaq has created truly great content and results with his collaborators, says the jury.
