- A no is a no!

That is the message that demonstrators in Nuuk today want to convey to the American people. This is what organizer of the demonstration, Aqqalukkuluk Fontain, says minutes before the demonstration starts on Thursday afternoon.

- The demonstration is not directed at Donald Trump and his administration, because our government has emphasized and said no thanks. The message is to the American people that Greenland is a democratic country. A no is a no when the majority says so, says Aqqalukkuluk Fontain.

Democratic country

Several hundred people have already gathered outside Inatsisartut, as Sermitsiaq speaks to Aqqalukkuluk Fontain.

The demonstrators will walk from the square outside Inatsisartut's building and towards the new consulate building in Nuuk's city center. Here, the demonstrators must turn their backs on the consulate and hold a 2-minute silence to show their dissatisfaction.

Around 400 protesters have gathered outside Inatsisartut's building, and more are joining the crowd.

The organizer explains that the day of the demonstration has been chosen on the same day as the opening of the consulate, as there is the greatest chance that Greenland's message will reach the American people.

- Several people have contacted me about this demonstration, and I can see that there is a great need for people to show their feelings again. What we want is for people to be allowed to express their anger, fear, and to get their feelings out.
