On January 20, TV2 reported that member of parliament Aaja Chemnitz (IA) made a harsh accusation against politicians from Naleraq.
- Kuno Fencker and the rest of Naleraq have played with fire, and the Greenlandic population is now paying the price. It is disloyal to the majority of the Greenlandic population, and it is treason, said Aaja Chemnitz to TV2.
The statement has led to a reaction from the chairman of Inatsisartut, Kim Kielsen (S), who in a letter dated January 21st writes to Aaja Chemnitz that in the tense situation in which Greenland finds itself, special consideration should be shown:
- I have no doubt that all of us, including Inatsisartut, are deeply affected and strongly influenced by the situation that our country and our compatriots currently find ourselves in. In this situation, there is reason to show special consideration in our actions towards parliamentary colleagues, across party lines, writes Kielsen in a letter that both DR and Sermitsiaq have seen.
He writes that a statement about treason could be perceived as an accusation of violating the Criminal Code.
- If you believe that someone has been guilty of this, you must contact the appropriate authorities, says Kielsen.
The dispute between Aaja Chemnitz and Kuno Fencker dates back to the same time last year, when Aaja Chemnitz made a similar critical statement on the basis that Kuno Fencker had made a trip to the United States in connection with the inauguration of Donald Trump as president. During the trip, Kuno Fencker had spoken to several American politicians.
Sermitsiaq mentioned the dispute at the time in this article, among other things: Kuno Fencker threatens Aaja Chemnitz with police report
