The woman responsible for the Arctic Circle Trail is stepping down as 'trail manager'

Lisa Germany has been ‘content and trail manager’ at Arctic Circle Business for just over four years – and has lived in this country for almost seven.

In practice, she has been responsible for ensuring that the popular hiking route between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut, the Arctic Circle Trail, has been maintained and that the many hikers have been able to find the right information about the trip.

But when Lisa Germany holds another online webinar on March 3rd with information, tips and tricks for people who want to hike the route this year, it will be the last time.

At the end of this month, she will quit her position and at the end of March, she will leave Sisimiut and Greenland.

- I actually made the decision more than a year ago, says Lisa Germany.

She had been to Australia, where she is from, on a visit, and here she realized that she needed to spend more time with her friends and her family there.

- Australia is so huge, and I can only visit one or two friends each time I am home. Besides, I am not young anymore – my parents are getting older, so I felt it was time to go home and spend more time with them, she says.

Although she is sure of her decision, it is with mixed feelings that she is moving away from here.

- I am of course sad to have to move. Greenland is really not an easy place to leave. I really love it here, she says.

- I hope to come back for a visit.

However, she is looking forward to spending time with her loved ones, delving more into the art she makes – and getting her blog up and running again.

What Lisa Germany's exit will mean for the Arctic Circle Trail is still uncertain, she says.

- I will be handing over responsibility, but it is still a bit uncertain who will look after it (the hiking trail, ed.) going forward. But Arctic Circle Business and the municipality are in the process of discussing it, she says.

- Hopefully someone will be hired who will work the same as me.
