When Greenland is the center

It is difficult to avoid the massive focus on our country, and ourselves as a people.

Our small community is no longer a white spot on the world map. Our country is the focal point! It is fascinating and a frightening experience all at once.

Focal points have almost always been everywhere else in the world except Kalaallit Nunaat. A focal point is a place where something important and interesting is happening. Today, only Trump, the bandit from over there, doesn't know who Mr. Jens Frederik Nielsen is.

That is the unequal duel that the country is exposed to.

The cool ones

When the gaze is fixed on us from the USA, it is quite overwhelming with the great political and cultural support that Denmark, France, Europe, Canada and the Nordic countries give us. Even world-renowned names like Neil Young (teach your children, etc.) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings) have expressed their strong support. It is heartwarming!

It is so good that we have Aaja Chemnitz, our tireless member of parliament. There is simply no better version in this day and age! It is quite inevitable to mention her efforts. I know that there are many others who do a great job, but Aaja Chemnitz does it especially well.

The good thing about her efforts is that she stands up with her good nature, argues well for her case and raises funds – not only financial funds, but also in important people who can support and show the way in the fight for Greenland. I think that is quite commendable.

A solid foundation

For our country is not “an unhappy place” with a fascinating nature and landscape, as a columnist from Kristeligt Dagblad wrote the other day after watching the TV show “Arctic Rescuers” on DR 1. You have to look for a long time for an ignorant priest who babbles! Even one who has never set foot in the countryside. Sørine Godtfredsen, if you are so wise, tell me a country and a people that has not been exposed to unfortunate events, people and destinies. They are found everywhere in the world, including Jerusalem, Nakskov and Skive.

It is true that as a people we have been exposed, fought and cried our brave tears. But the majority stands strong, lives well, educates itself and fights bravely to make society run. We have many good, strong and outgoing young and old people who believe in the future, even though they have lost and lost.

The country in which we grew up is full of scars that need to be healed and cared for. Scars that others have exposed us to, but certainly also scars that we ourselves have exposed ourselves to generation after generation. The country in which the Greenlandic people live must be allowed to "sprout and grow" on a good foundation. But allow me to say that we would rather be free from condescension from ignorant people. Unfortunately, there are enough of them.

That said, now is also the time when we as a people should rise up completely without wavering. No one said it would be easy. But we can, if we understand that community and solid goals are the way forward.
