New podcast: The chairman turns 67 – but does not let go

On May 5, SIK's chairman, Jess G. Berthelsen, reaches the official retirement age, but he still has something to give. In September, he will mark 35 years as chairman, and in October he will stand for another term at the head of the trade union movement. He tells that in our podcast.

SIK will hold a congress in Ilulissat on 30 and 31 October. Here, Jess G. Berthelsen is running for the post of chairman. The chairman of the trade union is elected every four years.

- Age is just a number. I don't feel like a 67-year-old. I know not really how you feel at that age. When we were children, we thought that 50-year-olds were old – and they looked old too. But fortunately that has changed, says Jess G. Berthelsen.

It's his birthday, and really it should be about him. But Jess G. Berthelsen has not easy by talking about himself. Instead, he quickly changes the subject and begins to talk about the conditions of the workers and everything that is happening in the world.

Although he has reached retirement age, he has no plans to slow down. On the contrary, he poses up to the post of chairman again this autumn.

- I can feel that I can still work. I still have something to give. And me still have some plans, he says.

We have spoken to Jess G. Berthelsen about what he himself highlights as important in his long career - and about what has been more difficult. Listen to the conversation below.
