A larger number of Danish combat soldiers, described as "a substantial contribution", are expected to arrive in Greenland on Monday evening, the Danish Armed Forces announced, TV 2 reports.
Army Chief Peter Boysen arrives with the group.
The soldiers will contribute to the troop buildup of Danish soldiers that is currently taking place.
Previously, Commander of Arctic Command Søren Andersen stated that approximately 100 Danish soldiers have already arrived in Nuuk and a similar number in Kangerlussuaq.
Here they will begin the "Arctic Endurance" exercise, which is a large exercise that includes soldiers from some of Denmark's most loyal allied countries in NATO.
Exercise is accelerated
The major exercise has been accelerated and intensified as a result of recent statements from US President Donald Trump.
He wants to take over Greenland, even though the countries are allies, and he has not ruled out using military force.
Most recently, he said that the defense alliance NATO has for 20 years instructed Denmark to eliminate what he describes as the Russian threat to Greenland.
Now is the time, and it will be done, the president wrote without elaborating how.
Threatening with tariffs
Denmark has had a strategy and implemented measures for years to keep Russia and China out of influence in Greenland. Trump has claimed that the countries are present in the waters, but Denmark and experts have flatly denied this.
On Saturday, Trump announced that he will impose a ten percent tariff on goods from Denmark and seven other European countries due to the situation surrounding Greenland.
These are the countries that have sent forces to Greenland to participate in the exercise. They have indicated that they support Denmark, and an extraordinary EU summit has been called for Thursday.
