Sermitsiaq contacted the Greenland Police on Sunday morning to inquire about the night's power outage in Nuuk.
Chief of Police Aputsiaq Hansen says that the police have not immediately experienced any extraordinary challenges in connection with the power outage:
- It has been running normally except that citizens had to contact us on another number or show up in person at the station, says the duty officer.
"We are back to normal operations," he says.
Power outage darkens Nuuk
The power outage hit Nuuk around 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Nukissiorfiit has stated that the outage occurred due to strong winds in Buksefjorden, which caused a fault on the company's transmission line.
Just after 1 a.m., Nukissiorfiit announced that they had begun to restore supply to the city from the emergency power plant and that it would happen gradually.
At 4:35 a.m., the company announced that the entire city was supplied with electricity, water, and heating again.
Suspected drunk driver in traffic accident
The duty manager says about the other incidents of the day that unfortunately there have been a number of suicide threats.
He points out that the Tusaannga telephone advice service may be relevant if you need someone to talk to. The telephone advice service is anonymous, has the number 801180 and is open 24 hours a day.
On Saturday evening at 6:48 p.m., the police also received a report of a traffic accident in Ilulissat, where a driver had hit another vehicle, and it was suspected that the driver was drunk.
The police responded and arrested the driver, who was arrested and taken for a blood sample. There were no injuries in the accident.
