In 2025, Greenlandic students in Denmark could fly to Nuuk and back for just 1,000 kroner. This was made possible with money allocated in the Danish Finance Act.
The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Research reports that in 2025, the agency processed 235 applications for grants for 1,000 kroner flights, and support was promised 205 times.
The cheap tickets have been a key issue for member of parliament Aaja Chemnitz (IA):
– I am pleased that the scheme has been used. It is a pilot project, so it is important that students use the opportunity if it is to become a permanent solution for the future, she says.
Next round opens soon
A total of six million kroner was allocated in 2024 to increase students' ties to Greenland. The money comes from the state's North Atlantic Fund, which extends over four years.
Aaja Chemnitz states that it will soon be possible to apply for 1,000 kroner flight tickets in a new round. The Greenland House in Copenhagen helps with applications.
Students in Denmark from Greenland can use the offer once a year. No additional subsidies are given for domestic flights in Greenland.
The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Research states that it was typically a lack of study activity that was the basis for the 30 rejections of support.
