Air Greenland expects to change a significant number of departures and reservations in the summer of 2026. Affected passengers will be notified of new departure times in the near future.
The company itself states this on its website.
– For the vast majority, the change will be minimal, while some travelers may experience that the adjustment entails an overnight stay en route, writes Air Greenland.
The airline justifies the changes in the much-discussed challenges in Nuuk:
– The adjustments are necessary to ensure that our schedule continues to comply with the current restrictions in the airspace at Nuuk Airport. We apologize for the inconvenience the change may cause and we wish everyone a good and safe trip.
Air Greenland does not elaborate on which or how many departures are affected.
Four activities per hour
The restrictions in question for Nuuk Airport were introduced in the autumn of 2025, when the Danish Transport Authority assessed that air traffic had become too extensive for the capacity.
Therefore, rules were introduced that, among other things, limit the airport to four activities (arrivals or departures) per hour.
In December 2025, an agreement was reached between Greenland Airports and Naviair on air traffic control at Nuuk Airport to increase capacity in the airspace. According to the plan, the first air traffic controllers were to be ready in May 2026.
