Air passenger boom to Greenland in January

The great international interest in Greenland has sent the number of passengers on scheduled flights to Greenland skyrocketing.

Statistics Greenland has published the number of passengers on scheduled flights for January this year, and it shows an increase of a whopping 20.5 percent with a total of 5,840 passengers. In comparison, there were 4,847 in the same month in January 2025. An increase of almost 1,000 passengers.

The explanation for the increase is obviously in the many journalists, politicians and officials who have made the pilgrimage to Nuuk due to Donald Trump's statements about wanting to take over Greenland.

January is one of the weakest tourist months, so it is unlikely that this category of passengers has significantly affected the number of passengers, even though tourist agencies from several countries have announced that they are receiving far more inquiries about the possibility of vacationing in this country.

Regardless of the sad background to the increase, the hotel and restaurant industry and the Self-Government can be pleased, as more guests result in increased revenue.
