The political situation in Greenland developed dramatically on Friday. At the same time as submitting candidate lists to the Folketing, Siumut announced that the party was withdrawing from government cooperation.

As a result of Siumut's departure, the government now consists of Demokraatit, Inuit Ataqatigiit and Atassut.

Atassut criticized from the start that two members of Naalakkersuisut ran for the Folketing without taking leave from their ministerial posts. The party also questioned whether it should continue to remain in the coalition.

The party's board met late Friday to decide whether Atassut should remain in the government collaboration.

– We have held a meeting. They wanted me to speak to him again. Therefore, I will discuss with him how the collaboration can continue – or whether it should continue, says Atassut's chairman Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen to Sermitsiaq on Monday morning.

The conversations are confidential

According to Atassut's chairman, Naalakkersuisut and the chairman are still in dialogue. This means that a decision has not yet been made on whether Atassut should continue to be part of the government collaboration.

– Right now I still do not have a clear answer.

– I spoke to the chairman of Naalakkersuisut yesterday (Sunday, ed.). I will return to the board today. I hope that everything will be clarified tomorrow. But I cannot promise it, says Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen.

What are you discussing?

– We will keep that between us for now. I do not want to make it public, concludes the Atassut chairman.
