On Tuesday, the Foreign Policy Committee in the Folketing was summoned for information about the Kingdom's relationship with the USA, and this time the Greenlandic colleagues in the Foreign and Security Policy Committee in Inatsisartut were informed at the same time.
The committee announced this in a press release.
Committee chair Pipaluk Lynge (IA) explains to Sermitsiaq that the simultaneous orientation is a result of her having struck a chord:
- This is the first time we have received information at the same time. It is usually only sent to us later, when it has already appeared in the press.
- This is the result of me hitting the table, says Pipaluk Lynge.
Last week, the committee chairman harshly criticized Danish politicians for having a 'colonialist approach' to the collaboration with Inatsisartut, because Inatsisartut's committee was not informed at the same time as the Committee in the Folketing, and thus there has been a response to the criticism from the Danish side.
Reassuring
After the meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told several media outlets that the US Vice President, J.D. Vance, has wanted to participate and will host the meeting on Wednesday between Greenland, Denmark and the US in Washington.
Pipaluk Lynge says that she is currently confident:
- I can say that there is finally a dialogue between the three countries, and I can only be hopeful that it is only the first of many conversations.
- The fact that they will meet with our Foreign Minister also shows recognition that we have a system and apparatus that they can talk to.
After the meeting in the Folketing, further news has also emerged, namely that Prime Minister Vivian Motzfeldt (S) and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen will meet with NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, on Monday.
To this Pipaluk Lynge says:
- I am happy that things are going well and that several things have been initiated. As mentioned, I am confident, and we must hope that the NATO alliance can be strengthened in this process.
