Danes who are currently in the Middle East should make use of the opportunities that arise to travel out of the region.
This is stated by Peter Lehmann Nielsen, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Citizen Service, at a short press conference on Monday afternoon.
- We have no plans to evacuate, but there are opportunities to travel out, and they should be used where possible, is the call from the director.
He states that Denmark is in dialogue with "our Nordic partners about a common approach".
- We currently have no plans to evacuate, but it is clear that we are preparing for all scenarios, he adds.
For almost two years, the Ministry has been urging Danes to leave Iran. And that call only became more urgent after Israel and the United States launched an attack on Iran on Saturday.
It began in Iran, but it has quickly spread to several countries in the Middle East.
There have been reports of explosions in Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, among other places.
- We are following the situation closely, and we understand that there are many places where it is very uncomfortable to be, says Peter Lehmann Nielsen.
He urges all Danes staying in the region to register on the so-called Danes list and read the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel guides.
The Danes list is a list that Danish citizens and people with a residence permit in Denmark can sign up for when they travel or live abroad.
People on the Danes list automatically receive messages if something suddenly happens that is relevant to the country they are in.
On Monday, there were around 8,000 Danes registered on the Danes list in the Middle East, he says, pointing out that this is not a final number.
