The Danish government has allocated 180 million kroner in 2026 for a comprehensive emergency package that will strengthen preparedness in Greenland.

The funds are the result of a collaboration between the Danish Minister of Public Security and the Greenland Government, and they will, among other things, go to warning systems, emergency power and air traffic control, the Greenland Government said in a press release.

Distribution of the emergency package

The money is distributed as follows in a number of critical areas to increase the safety of the Greenlandic population:

The agreement is based on a strengthened cooperation that was entered into in January 2026. It follows up on previous recommendations that citizens should be able to fend for themselves for five days during crises.

Naalakkersuisoq Peter Borg (D) comments on the agreement:

- I am pleased that in the future we can stand even stronger if the power fails or when we have to warn citizens that there is a critical incident. The new measures are the result of a good and close dialogue that I have had with the Danish Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, he says.
