Anyone with a good idea to improve the environment can now apply for funds from the Environment Fund. This applies to, for example, municipalities, companies, associations, school classes and private individuals.
The Greenland Government has prioritized in advance how the many millions should be distributed:
This year, the Greenland Government has adjusted the requirements for co-financing, so that it is possible for more private individuals to apply for funds. There is therefore no requirement for co-financing for applications of 10,000 kroner and under. If an application exceeds 10,000 kroner, the co-financing requirement is 10%.
- Naalakkersuisut's environmental policy must be visible and noticeable to the population – it must be concrete and clear. For me, the Environmental Fund is about translating political decisions into concrete improvements in settlements, cities and nature. In 2026, we in Naalakkersuisut will prioritize allocating funds to challenges with waste, our marine environment and fishing grounds.
- We are doing this because this is where the challenges are very clear – and because the solutions require action now. At the same time, we are lowering the requirement for co-financing so that more people – including private individuals – can help shoulder responsibility locally. This is how we create results that last – and this is how we get even more people to contribute to keeping our nature and environment clean, says Naalakkersuisut's Minister for Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, Self-sufficiency and Environment, Peter Borg.
