Fraud case: Defendant denies travel fraud

On Tuesday afternoon, the prosecutor continued to question a man who previously held a significant position at Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. He is charged with fraud, abuse of authority and data fraud.

The man tells the court how in the fall of 2019 he was too late in applying for a holiday fund for a trip for four people, after which he paid the 23,195 kroner himself.

The defendant told the municipal director Lars Møller-Sørensen about the case. According to the defendant's statement, Møller-Sørensen asked for the receipt. After which the money was paid into the defendant's account.

- I don't have a thought in my head about whether he is violating a municipal mandate, or whatever it may be called. It is a gesture he is making, the man answers in court.

Prominent witness list

Lars Møller-Sørensen is scheduled to give a statement as a witness on Thursday.

The accused man then answers questions about a trip his sister made to Nuuk in 2021, during the corona period, in relation to a death in their family.

He is accused of unjustifiably having Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq pay for her trip, even though she had nothing to do with the municipality at all.

- I have just arranged the contact with the corona secretariat, he says.

Now we move on to the fourth and most important point in the indictment. The accusation that the former municipal manager has illegally favored his sister's company as a supplier to the municipality.

The defendant pleads not guilty to all four counts. He also believes that his previous statements to the police have been misleadingly reproduced in several places.

A verdict in the case is expected on Thursday.
