Jens-Frederik Nielsen tells Sermitsiaq that he will not attend the opening of the new American consulate on Thursday.

He cannot say whether other members of the Greenland Government will attend, but for him it is a pretty clear no, thank you.

– We have not made a decision in principle, but I will not attend, he says.

On the occasion of the opening, the consulate has invited to a large reception on Thursday in the new premises in the center of Nuuk.

According to Sermitsiaq's information, a significant portion of those invited have chosen to decline, which may be due to the tense political situation, where US President Donald Trump has wanted ownership and control over Greenland.

On Monday, member of parliament Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA) announced on Facebook that she is declining invitations from the American consulate to various events:

- I have explained it by saying that the situation between our countries is currently difficult, Nathanielsen wrote on Facebook.
