24-HOUR REPORT

Man released in bomb threat case - rifle shot in Nuuk

Published

On Wednesday afternoon, the police announced that the airport in Sisimiut had been evacuated due to a bomb threat.

The man, who is suspected of having made the threat, had however left the airport, and security chief Poul Kreutzmann says that the man was subsequently arrested at an address in the city.

The man can expect legal repercussions, and the security chief makes an appeal to everyone who uses the country's airports:

- The word "bomb" does not belong in an airport. We take it very seriously, and if someone says something, it triggers our very regular procedures. So you should not do that, says the security chief.

In recent months, the police have received several reports of bomb threats at, among others, Nuuk Airport, where reports have also led to evacuations.

Rifle shots in Nuuk

In addition to the case of the threat at Sisimiut Airport, the chief of police says that the police received a report of rifle shots in Nuuk at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

The police drove to the scene, which was by the water near the Saqqarliit road.

Several people were found at the scene, and here too the chief of police urged people to think carefully before firing their rifles or shooting at targets:

- Firing rifles or shooting at targets is prohibited within 500 meters of urban areas, and in addition, many people travel in Nuuk's nearby natural areas.

- Ideally, you should sail away from the city, perhaps to Nordlandet or other places where it can be done safely, says Poul Kreutzmann.
