Lars Hawaleschka Madsen, Lieutenant Colonel and Commander of the Pituffik Space Base Liaison Element, was awarded the Minister of Defense's Medal for his heroic deed last week. Arctic Command writes on its LinkedIn page.
- A prisoner who had been fatally injured in a boat accident was rescued safely to Qaanaaq and on to Pituffik Space Base thanks to great efforts and successful cooperation, the announcement states.
Lars received the award because of his extraordinary efforts as an initiator, planner and active participant, contributing with great overview, expertise and professionalism under extreme conditions.
The pilot from Air Greenland who participated in the operation also received a medal.
