Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (Social Democracy) lands in Nuuk today.
Chairman of the Greenlandic Parliament Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D) will receive her at the airport.
Mette Frederiksen's plane lands on 11.08. Jens-Frederik Nielsen is ready to welcome her. The two heads of government greet each other with a hug.
The Prime Minister waves to those present, who were waiting for her arrival. About fifteen minutes later, Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen leave the airport.
They drive down to Hans Egede's House at Kolonihavnen in Nuuk. They do not speak to the press. There is a large crowd of journalists outside.
On X, however, the Prime Minister's Office writes a quote from Mette Frederiksen: "Just landed in Nuuk. Happy to be back in Greenland. Looking forward to continuing the close cooperation - also in the preparations for the joint diplomatic effort. Thank you for the warm welcome Jens-Frederik."
After lunch at Hans Egede's House, Mette Frederiksen gives a brief statement to the press about her visit to Greenland.
- I am first and foremost in Greenland today to show our strong Danish support for the Greenlandic people. It has been a very, very difficult time. Everyone can see that, she says.
She says that she and Jens-Frederik Nielsen need to be very close to each other during this time.
- So I would call it a working day, where we now prepare our next step together as a kingdom.
- Now there is a diplomatic, political track that we will prepare, says Mette Frederiksen.
The two will hold meetings and have not planned any press conferences. The Greenland Government writes on Facebook.
The Prime Minister's Office informs on X that Mette Frederiksen is traveling from Brussels to Nuuk today to meet with Jens-Frederik Nielsen. The Ministry does not provide further details.
The Norwegian media NRK reported on Thursday that no less than five prime ministers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland were to have met in Greenland on Friday.
However, the meeting was postponed due to recent developments in the case of Greenland.
US President Donald Trump said earlier this week, after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, that a framework has been found for a future agreement on Greenland. We do not yet know exactly what the two agreed on at the meeting.
