It is not uncommon for the shelves in Qaanaaq's grocery store, Pilersuisoq, to start to become empty at the beginning of May. Items such as dinner, refrigerated goods and sweets are often sold out.

Sometimes even essential items run out. Although there are still regular items on the shelves, infant formula for children with allergies is also sold out, Isabella Nielsen tells Sermitsiaq.

Gets water and tea in a baby bottle

For Isabella Nielsen, who has a child in Qaanaaq who still uses a baby bottle, the lack of hypoallergenic infant formula is a big challenge.

– My child can eat regular food, but still needs milk. The milk products that are currently available are making my child's skin dry, says Isabella Nielsen.

When the town's store runs out of products such as infant formula, and family, friends or neighbors also have nothing to share, the situation becomes difficult.

– My son, who will soon be two years old, has to drink tea and water from a bottle, says Isabella Nielsen.

She therefore hopes that a solution will be found quickly so that infant formula can be delivered to Qaanaaq.

Flight with supplies on May 30

KNI A/S states that it is working at full speed to deliver NAN infant formula products to Qaanaaq.

– The products have already been delivered to the airport in Ilulissat, states Juliane Henningsen Heilmann, Head of Communications at KNI A/S, in a written comment.

Due to the shortage of goods in Pilersuisoq in Qaanaaq, KNI A/S has had to charter a plane.

– We have entered into an agreement with Air Greenland to fly supplies to Qaanaaq. I have been informed that a flight with goods is planned for May 30, says Juliane Henningsen Heilmann.

The goods will be sent to Ilulissat on May 23 and will then continue to Qaanaaq.

Work is underway to get many different goods.

– This includes products for young children as well as food, refrigerated goods, cold cuts, frozen goods and other necessary goods such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and similar products, writes Juliane Henningsen Heilmann.
