On December 9, then-member of the Greenland Parliament, Mads Pedersen, announced that he was resigning from his position for personal reasons with immediate effect.
Since then, the President of the Greenland Government has been responsible for Pedersen's areas of responsibility, which are children, youth, families and domestic affairs.
The Government of Greenland informs that responsibility for the Ministry of Children, Youth, Families and Internal Affairs will now be taken over by another member of the Government of Greenland, namely Nivi Olsen (D):
- The Greenland Government has appointed Nivi Olsen as the new Minister of Education for the Ministry of Children, Youth, Families and Internal Affairs. Minister of Education Nivi Olsen will continue to retain responsibility for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Churches, writes the Greenland Government in a press release.
- The appointment ensures continuity in the work in the area, and the Government of Greenland looks forward to further cooperation, it continues.
Since the autumn session ended, two members have left the Greenlandic Parliament; Mads Pedersen (IA) and Bentiaraq Ottosen (A).
Any new members of the Naalakkersuisut must first be approved by Inatsisartut, and this can happen at the earliest when parliament reconvenes. This is scheduled for February 3. However, there have been reports from party leaders that plans to convene Inatsisartut are being brought forward due to the US situation.
