Police officer in court: Never seen anything like it

On Tuesday morning, we heard from the defendant herself in the current murder case from Tasiilaq. Here, the prosecution wants a young woman sentenced to eight years in prison for killing her mother.

The woman has confessed to stabbing, but not to having committed attempted murder.

In the morning, we started questioning witnesses. The first witness is a police officer who showed up at the mother and daughter's shared home after the stabbing. He was the one who handcuffed the daughter. He says:

– She had very strange behavior that I have never seen before, not even in similar cases. She laughs and says something along the lines of “I finally killed my mother.” It was as if she hadn’t really realized what had just happened.

The officer says that there were clear signs of drinking, with beer cans lying around, and at least two knives lying around in the room.

He also confirms that the mother was in a very bad condition upon arrival. The 55-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead half an hour later.

Rejects the interpretation

The accused daughter objects to the officer’s interpretation:

“He said I laughed, but I didn’t laugh. I didn’t tell him I killed my mother either,” she says.

The next witnesses were the neighbors. One was the man the defendant went to after the stabbing to contact the police. We also heard from another neighbor, a woman.

The witness said she did not participate in the drinking party, but could hear them. They were happy when they started, but later you could hear arguing. The witness said she heard the mother say two or three times that she wanted to be killed.

The court continues with more witnesses on Tuesday afternoon. We do not yet know for sure whether the verdict will also be given on Tuesday.
