Daily report: Rape in Tasiilaq and violence in Ilulissat

Along with the increased police presence in Nuuk on the occasion of the King's visit, the daily report shows that reports of both rape and violence have been registered.

The Greenland Police have had an ordinary busy day.

The daily report shows - in addition to the increased presence of police on street tickets in Nuuk - that there have been reports of rape and violence.

Tasiilaq

A 33-year-old woman reported to the police on Tuesday, February 18 at 3:29 p.m. that she had woken up to the fact that a 19-year-old man was raping her while she was sleeping.

According to the police the suspect is a 19-year-old man. He was arrested in connection with the case, but there was not sufficient evidence to present him for a constitutional hearing, and he has therefore been released.

The case is still being investigated as rape.

The police state that the citizens of Tasiilaq do not need to feel unsafe in connection with the case, as the 19-year-old is not considered to pose a general threat.

Ilulissat

A 32-year-old man was arrested at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday night in connection with a disturbance at an address in Ilulissat.

According to the police, the man gained access to a 37-year-old man's home without consent, after which violence broke out. He is charged with violence and breach of the peace.

Alcohol was involved in the incident.

The 32-year-old has been subsequently released after questioning. According to the police, the victim has not been seriously injured.
