On Friday around lunchtime, the Greenland Police were alerted to a traffic accident in Nuuk, where a car had driven into water between RAL and Stark in Qeqertanut. The report was received on Friday at 11:43.

- Fortunately, the driver was able to get out of the sinking car and get ashore. There were no injuries during the accident, says Chief of Patrol Aputsiaq Hansen to Sermitsiaq.

He further states that the car was lifted out of the water again later that day.

More drunk drivers

It's crazy again on Saturday night. In Uummannaq, a car went wrong and flipped onto its roof. The traffic accident happened at 4:34 a.m.

- The driver is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, there were no injuries requiring treatment, says Aputsiaq Hansen and continues:

- From the police, we strongly urge that people do not get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol. In an accident, it is not only the driver who puts himself in danger, but can also put others in danger. Find a lift or taxi rather than putting yourself or others in danger, says the chief of police.

Two more drivers have been stopped and charged with drunk driving. Both were stopped in Nuuk.

More suicide threats

In addition to other regular police tasks, the Greenland Police have been in contact with several people threatening to commit suicide.

The Chief of Police at the Greenland Police is therefore making a general appeal to citizens.

- The police must of course help, because we help people in need. But we would also like to encourage citizens to call the Tusaannga advice line. Tusaannga is also there to help, says Aputsiaq Hansen.
