On Saturday, the Tusagassiuinermi Sulisut Peqatigiiffiats, TP – The Greenland Media Association – new Kajumissaat Elna award was presented for the first time.
The recipient was photojournalist Oscar Scott Carl, who is employed at Sermitsiaq.
He receives the award for his creative and raw images and for having shaped the appearance of the Sermitsiaq media house, writes TP in a press release.
The Media Association notes that Oscar Scott Carl has, among other things, taken pictures from the historic meeting in the USA between the Greenlandic/Danish delegation and the US Secretary of State and Vice President in January.
He has also travelled around Greenland to make stories, including in East Greenland, where he met people at eye level and with openness and respect, TP points out.
- In meeting people and in his communication of events, including historical events, Oscar Scott Carl shows a different and raw motive, said Erik Olsen on behalf of the jury when awarding the Kajumissaat Elna.
The award recognizes Oscar Scott Carl for his professionalism, commitment and the difference he makes – both for his colleagues and for those who read and watch the news.
Named after a deceased journalist
The Kajumissaat Elna was awarded during the general meeting of Tusagassiuinermi Sulisut Peqatigiiffiat on Saturday 28 February.
This is the first time since the award was established at the Media Association's general meeting in 2025. The award is given to members who, among other things, make a difference to journalism in Greenland.
Kajumissaat Elna is named to honor the late journalist Elna Egede (1953-2024). She was known for her journalistic commitment, sharpness and critical sense.
Elna Egede herself received TP's honorary award in 2008 and the Carsten Nielsen grant from the Danish Journalists Association the same year after revealing politicians and civil servants' purchases of the Home Rule government's staff housing at attractive addresses in Nuuk at favorable rates far below market prices.
