Siumut is now asking a number of questions to Naalakkersuisut in the case of the American submarine, which was in Greenlandic waters near Nuuk on Saturday.
In an open letter, the party's member of Inatsisartut's Foreign and Security Policy Committee, Erik Jensen, says that the party has forwarded questions about the case to Naalakkersuisut in the interests of the safety of the population.
Among other things, the party wants to know whether the submarine in question is alone or whether there are several, and what it contains, and for what purpose is it sailing off the coast of Greenland?
Siumut also wants to know whether the Arctic Command (AKO) was aware of the submarine's sailing in advance and whether there is sufficient supervision of other submarines' sailing near Greenland.
Arctic Command has no comments
At Sermitsiaq, we have sent similar questions about the submarine's presence to Arctic Command, but the Norwegian Armed Forces do not comment on other countries' operational conditions, it says.
Arctic Command states as follows:
"The evacuation was carried out in close cooperation with the American authorities.
The Norwegian Armed Forces generally do not comment on other nations' operational conditions. We therefore have nothing further to add to your inquiry."
The submarine's presence near Nuuk became public knowledge via a post on Facebook, where Arctic Command explained that a crew member had been evacuated from an American submarine 7 nautical miles off Nuuk.
In addition, parts of the incident were filmed from a passing tourist boat, and the footage is circulating on Facebook.
Want information as soon as possible
The episode takes place shortly after there have been great tensions between Greenland/Denmark and the USA, as a result of President Donald Trump's statements that the USA should take over Greenland.
Siumut's Erik Jensen emphasizes in his open letter that it is not surprising that allies can help each other:
"But in light of the many considerations and at a time when the situation in our country is not insignificant, I believe that it is important that information is provided as soon as possible."
