Nuuk was plunged into darkness on Saturday evening. Several Nuuk residents reported power outages on social media.
Several citizens report that there has been a power outage since 10:30 p.m.
Nukissiorfiit states that they are working on the matter.
- Due to the accident, there is a power outage throughout the city. Nukissiorfiit is working to restore power with an emergency generator, Nukissiorfiit informs.
The Greenland Police informs that the police emergency telephone may be affected by a power outage:
- There is a power outage in Nuuk. The police telephone number may be affected. Citizens can therefore also contact 56 01 12.
- If mobile telephony is affected as a result of the power outage, citizens can contact the local police station in person if they need police assistance, says the Greenland Police on their Facebook page.
Emergency activated
On Wednesday, authorities announced good advice for citizens on how to cope for five days if, for example, the power outage lasts a long time.
Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq reports on their Facebook page that emergency services have been activated to resolve the challenges.
- The emergency services have been activated, and Nukissiorfiit is working to restore power where power was lost due to an accident. Citizens are encouraged to follow official channels for updates. As soon as new information is available, the municipality will announce it, it says.
Strong winds cause accident
Nukissiorfiit updated their social media at 00:00 that the accident was caused by strong winds in Buksefjorden:
- There are strong winds in Utoqqarmiut Kangerluarsunnguat (Buksefjorden), which has caused a line fault on our transmission line. The fault is not in the fjord span. We are working to have the supply restored to the city, writes Nukissiorfiit.

Update at 00:40
Nukissiorfiit informs that the water supply has been cut off again. At the same time, Nukissiorfiit urges citizens to turn off electrical appliances:
- The connection to the hydroelectric power plant has fallen out again. We will supply the city with electricity from the emergency power plant until the storm in Utoqqarmiut Kangerluarsunnguat (Buksefjorden) has subsided. Please turn off your electrical appliances, it will help us. Also remember to turn off hotplates if you have been cooking, so that they do not start when the supply is restored, writes Nukissiorfiit.

Update at 2:30 a.m. - about half of the city has power
Nukissiorfiit reports at 2:15 a.m. that all engines at the power plant are up and running and approximately half of the city has power.
Work to restore power to the city continues.
Update at 5:00 AM
Nukissiorfiit writes at 04:35 that the entire city is now supplied with electricity, water and heating again.
