The colony harbour must be brought back to life

After three years of preparation, the political starting gun has been fired – but now the battle for funding in the upcoming budgets awaits.

It is the citizens' own visions from 2023 that now form the basis for the new master plan for the Kolonihavnen.

It has now been almost three years since the first citizens shared their visions for 'Our Nuup Saava'. Now the municipal council has approved a comprehensive plan for the development of the area, known to many as Kolonihavnen and Nuutoqaq.

Mayor Avaaraq Olsen (IA) and the partners in the municipal council will develop the stretch from Holms Hus to Spækhusnæs. The goal is to create a vibrant and safe urban space all year round – exactly as citizens called for during the major participation rounds in 2023 and most recently in the dialogue on Nuuk 2035.

From citizens' dreams to reality

Where citizens called for stronger protection of the soul of the district during the ideas competition in 2023, the municipality is now responding again by making the re-establishment of the Arctic garden at Holm's Hus a flagship issue.

Next step: The money must be found

Although the administrative framework is now in place, the last important step is missing: financing. The overall development, which also includes small commercial stalls and green elements, must now be negotiated into place in the budgets for the coming years.

This marks the beginning of making Nuup Saava the cultural heart that the local citizens sketched three years ago.
