The King has gone to Maniitsoq - then it's off to Kangerlussuaq

After a festive reception in Nuuk with top politicians, schoolchildren and hundreds of citizens, King Frederik X continues his Greenland trip to Maniitsoq and Kangerlussuaq, where meetings with young people, business, the military and local communities mark a close-knit and eventful tour of the Arctic.

King Frederik X landed in Nuuk on Wednesday 18 February at 11:34. Here he was welcomed by the Chairman of Naalakkersuisut Jens-Frederik Nielsen and the Chairman of Inatsisartut Kim Kielsen. Jens-Frederik and Kim were dressed in blue anoraks when they welcomed the King.

The King greeted children from Mikisoq who were present on their way to the Ombudsman Julie Præst Wilche.

He continued to Hans Egede's house, where he had lamb for dinner, prepared by Katuaq's kitchen. He then walked up to GUX Nuuk on foot with a crowd behind him.

At GUX Nuuk, he was welcomed with the national anthem "Nuna Asiilasooq" and then went to the classrooms to meet students.

A packed programme

The King visited, among other things, the Royal Greenland fish factory, the inspection ship Vædderen and the Arctic Command in the afternoon, after which the official programme concluded with a coffee break for citizens.

The King's programme in Nuuk concluded with a meal at 7:00 p.m. in Hans Egede's house, where Jens-Frederik took on the role of host. The menu consisted of redfish and fish soup.

Today's program

The King has just arrived in Maniitsoq this morning, February 19.

The plan is that he will have lunch hosted by the municipal council. And then he will visit the streets of Maniitsoq on foot, where he will have the opportunity to greet citizens. He will then visit Maniitsoq Lodges, which is Maniitsoq's local business, run by young entrepreneurs.

There is great excitement in Katuaq when King Frederik arrives.

The plan is that the King will drive from Maniitsoq Lodges to the coffee shop in Maniitsoq's community center, where he is scheduled to subsequently leave for Kangerlussuaq.

It is expected that he will arrive in Kangerlussuaq this evening at 5:50 PM, where Frederik the Tenth will have the opportunity to greet the citizens of the settlement at the YMCA's soldiers' home.

Program for tomorrow

Tomorrow, February 20, at 9:00 AM, the King will visit the Arctic Basic Training Center in Kangerlussuaq, followed by a visit to the Arctic Basic Training Center camp in the Black Ridge terrain at 10:00 AM. The trip there is planned to be made by vehicle.
