The Dandelion Center opens its doors to a new housing for infants

On Wednesday, February 4, the Dandelion Center invites you to a reception in Nuuk on the occasion of the inauguration of their long-awaited residential institution Aili.

In addition to their building at the colonial harbor in Nuuk, the Dandelion Center also has space for children placed in institutions elsewhere in the city.

Nuka Fleischer, director of the Dandelion Center, is now happy to announce that a new home for infants, which has been several years in the making, is now finally ready for use.

On Wednesday, February 4, the independent institution Mælkebøttecenter will inaugurate their new residential unit, Aili, which can accommodate up to eight children aged zero to three years.

Here, the children can be sorted out – and placed for a longer period of time, if their biological family or a foster family is not an option, the Dandelion Center writes on its website.

Between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Wednesday you can come and see the results of the renovation of Mælkebøtten's and Værestedet's old premises.

The Dandelion Center has long wanted a department for infants, says director Nuka Fleischer.

- The inauguration marks an important milestone for us. It is the result of a long and targeted process, in which we have worked with a vision of creating better living conditions for children and young people, says the director of the Dandelion Center, Nuka Fleischer, in this connection.

She points out that too often, action is taken too late in cases involving children.

- Late intervention has far-reaching consequences for the child, the family and society as a whole. With our new residential unit for the youngest, we want to prevent failure and trauma by intervening earlier, she says.

Has been on the drawing board for a long time

The Aili residential unit and the renovation of the old premises have been on the drawing board for a while.

In 2024, the renovation of the building where the private institution Mælkebøtten and the associated Værested have been located since 2006 began in earnest.

The new infant care unit was originally supposed to open in September last year, but construction was delayed, writes KNR.

But now it's completely finished.

- With the new facilities, we can strengthen both our emergency function and the care we offer. We place particular focus on early intervention, prevention and involving the family as a central part of the work, says Director Nuka Fleischer.

With the Aili residential unit and the already existing institution, Mælkebøtten, the new building can accommodate a total of 16 children aged zero to twelve.

In addition, it will still be possible for children aged three to seventeen to come to the Daycare Center at the same address.
