The US and Israeli attacks on Iran could continue for four to five weeks at the current level, if possible.

This is what US President Donald Trump says to The New York Times.

Trump says that the US has plenty of missiles and bombs to continue the attacks for a month.

- We have planned for four to five weeks.

- It won't be difficult for us. We have large amounts of ammunition. We will store ammunition in various countries all over the world, Donald Trump tells the newspaper.

On Saturday morning, the United States launched a large-scale airstrike against Iran in cooperation with Israel. Since then, several senior Iranian leaders have been killed. Among them is Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In the interview with The New York Times, Donald Trump says that he has also thought about who will lead the country when the military operation is over.

The president says that he has "three very good choices" but he does not want to name them.

Trump also mentions several models for a possible future transfer of power in Iran.

Here, the president mentions Venezuela as an example. In January, the US military took the country's president, Nicolás Maduro, prisoner. Maduro is accused in a drug trafficking case in the United States.

Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has temporarily taken over the presidency of Venezuela and is trying to meet demands from the Trump administration.

- What we did in Venezuela, I think, is the perfect scenario, Donald Trump tells The New York Times.

Three American soldiers have so far lost their lives after the US and Israel launched the attacks on Saturday.

Donald Trump said Sunday evening in a video on his social media, Truth Social, that more Americans will probably lose their lives before the operation is over.

- That's probably how it will be. But we will do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen, he said.
