US President Donald Trump once again emphasizes his interest in Greenland.
On Friday, reporters at the White House were told that the United States needs to own the country to prevent Russia and China from occupying it in the future.
Reuters writes.
- And we don't want Russia or China as a neighbor, Trump says, according to Berlingske.
According to TV2, Donald Trump says at the press conference that the United States will do something about the issue of Greenland:
- Right now we are going to do something with Greenland, whether they like it or not. Because if we don't, Russia or China will take over Greenland. And we don't want Russia or China as a neighbor.
- I want to make a deal the easy way. But if we don't do it the easy way, we'll do it the hard way, he says, according to TV2.
The announcement from Trump comes ahead of an expected meeting between the foreign ministers of the United States, Denmark and Greenland in the coming week.
In a joint statement on Friday evening, the party leaders from the five parties in Inatsisartut stated in a joint statement that Greenland is governed in accordance with the Self-Government Act and international law, and no other countries should interfere in this.
