US President Donald Trump's special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, opens up about the process for the framework agreement that will be the solution to the situation between Denmark, Greenland and the United States.
Jeff Landry says that the framework agreement for Greenland builds on the defense agreements from 1941 and 1951 between the United States and Denmark.
He says this to the American media outlet The New York Times.
- The framework agreement builds on the defense agreements from 1941 and 1951 between the United States and Denmark and will strengthen the security of the United States, NATO and Greenland, as well as confirm the long-standing transatlantic defense commitments, he tells the media.
Jeff Landry says he "cannot reveal the details as they are being worked out."
However, he says that the agreement will "expand American operational freedom of action, support new bases and infrastructure, facilitate the deployment of advanced missile defense systems like Golden Dome, and displace hostile Chinese and Russian influence."
Talk of the framework agreement for Greenland began after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Donald Trump met during the economic summit in the Swiss city of Davos.
