A framework for a future agreement on Greenland has been developed, and at the same time, customs duties regarding Greenland are being abolished.

This is what US President Donald Trump writes on his social media account Truth Social.

"Based on a very productive meeting I had with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, we have established the framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland and indeed the entire Arctic," Trump wrote.

According to the president, this solution, if implemented, would be a "great gain for the United States and all NATO countries."

- Based on this agreement, I will not impose the tariffs that were to take effect on February 1, Trump continued.

The president had otherwise threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark and other European countries in the escalating showdown over Greenland.

Trump said he would impose a ten percent tariff on the countries from February 1.

The tariff will increase to 25 percent on June 1 if an agreement has not yet been reached, the president said.

The meeting with Mark Rutte took place on Wednesday evening in connection with the World Economic Forum in Davos.
