NOTE: The article has been updated with quotes from Aaja Chemnitz who says that Jeff Landry is going to Avannaata Qimussersua.

Donald Trump's special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, plans to visit Greenland in March, he says in an interview with Fox News.

Reuters writes.

The visit is confirmed by Greenlandic member of parliament Aaja Chemnitz (IA). According to her, Landry will be attending the annual dog sled race.

So Chemnitz will do the same. And she is even taking the Liberal Party's Greenland spokesperson, Louise Elholm, to Greenland in this connection, says Chemnitz.

- We are doing what we can. But it is also up to the Greenlandic Government how they will deal with it, Chemnitz tells Ritzau, referring to the Greenlandic government.

Should he meet with the Greenland Government?

Chemnitz has criticized Trump's desire for ownership of Greenland. It is Trump who appointed Landry to the newly created position. She does not expect Landry to be welcomed with open arms by the Greenlanders.

When US Vice President J.D. Vance and US Second Lady Usha Vance visited Greenland last year, Usha Vance was supposed to attend a dog sled race, but the Vance couple changed plans and she did not attend the dog sled race. This happened, among other things, after various protests over the visit.

It is too early to say whether Chemnitz or the Greenlandic government will meet with Jeff Landry in March, Chemnitz told TV 2.

Landry says Friday that he believes an agreement can be reached between the parties.

- I believe that there is an agreement that should and will be reached when this happens, he says in the interview on Friday.

Landry: Trump is serious

The announcement comes at the same time as an American delegation of politicians visits Christiansborg on Friday.

According to Reuters, Trump's special envoy also emphasizes that Trump is serious when it comes to claims about Greenland.

- He (Trump, ed.) has told Denmark what he is looking for, and now it's about getting Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance to make a deal, says Jeff Landry.

Has conveyed Trump's demands several times

The special envoy has repeatedly conveyed Trump's demand that the United States should have Greenland.

He did this on Thursday, among other things, in a post on the social media X, where he reiterated that Greenland is crucial to the security of Americans.

"The threats posed by hostile nations today demand decisive American action in the Arctic," Landry wrote on X.
