Two temporary military zones are established

The Greenland Police has given consent for the establishment of two additional military areas in Greenland. This applies to a land area in Kangerlussuaq and a port area in Nuuk.

There are a number of military activities in Greenland, and activities and exercises take place throughout the year.

A temporary military area has been established for the Defence Forces to use for storing equipment in Kangerlussuaq on Friday. On Monday, another temporary military area will be established in Nuuk at the harbor quay.

This is stated by the Greenland Police in a press release.

The press release does not mention which equipment is involved.

- There will be continuous security in the areas, and no unauthorized persons will have access to the areas. Safety and the local area have been taken into account, and relevant signs and barriers have been set up to guide road users and pedestrians, the police write.

The military area in Kangerlussuaq is established at the guardhouse Jyttes Hytte, which is located about 3.5 kilometers from Kangerlussuaq.

In Nuuk, a so-called hotel ship will be located at berth 55 on Monday, which will also become a temporary military area.

Signage and security will be provided in the areas.

Last week, a temporary military area was also established in Nuuk at 'The End of the World' for equipment storage.

Neither the Greenland Police nor the Arctic Command have further comments on the establishment of the temporary military areas.
