These days, the IQ Naasut store chain is undoubtedly busy getting ready for Valentine's Day on February 14, when the demand for flowers typically peaks.
And AG has tried to find out what people think about Valentine's Day, how they would like to spend it in the best possible way, and what plans they have for the day.
Uiloq Kaspersen, 32 years old.
What does Valentine's Day mean to you?
- I see it as the day of love.
How would you like to celebrate Valentine's Day?
- I would like to spend the day showing love, doing something nice with my daughter and maybe going out for dinner.
What are your plans for celebrating Valentine's Day?
– I have considered taking my daughter out to eat so we can celebrate the day a little.
Angutinnguaq Heilmann, 50 years old.
What does Valentine's Day mean to you?
- It's not something we young people have heard much about here, but it has become popular in recent years and is one of the things that appeals to people outside Greenland.
How would you like to celebrate Valentine's Day?
- I would go to a restaurant with someone, maybe my wife, and then give him something to eat or something to show.
– I haven't made any concrete plans in that regard yet, and time will tell how it develops. With everything that's happening right now, anything can happen – we'll see.
Robert Coner, from the Philippines, 37 years old.
What does Valentine's Day mean to you?
– It's about the people I love.
How would you like to celebrate Valentine's Day?
– Giving gifts, surprising the people you love with a gift, and giving them something they want.
What are your plans for Valentine's Day?
– I'm planning to take someone out to eat and give them a surprise gift.
Katja Bjørn, 28 years old.
What does Valentine's Day mean to you?
– The day of love. I see it as a day of love. It can mean many things: love between lovers, but also love for friends or family. That's how I spend the day.
How would you like to celebrate Valentine's Day?
– Being with the people I love, or someone I care about – doing something nice together, maybe going out to eat or going to the movies.
– I don't have any plans myself, but here at the store (Inuit Quality Clothes of Greenland, ed.) we are going to organize something this week to mark Valentine's Day.
Piitannguaq Alaufesen, 52 years old.
What does Valentine's Day mean to you?
– My wife and I agree that Valentine’s Day is really every day. That doesn’t mean that you have to give a gift on that day – because why should it be more important than any other day? We believe that we can show love every day and that it doesn’t need a special occasion. But if you don’t have a partner, Valentine’s Day can be a good opportunity to date or meet someone.
If you had to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the best possible way, how would you do it?
- If I had to spend Valentine’s Day like that, I would probably make it as romantic as possible. Take a short walk together by the sea here, at a leisurely pace, and maybe take a short boat trip on a small cabin boat. When we get there, we could have dinner and then just enjoy each other’s company. That would be perfect.
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
– I don’t have any specific plans, because like I said before, we don’t usually do it that way, and I don’t think it needs to be something that has a special meaning, like I absolutely have to do something that day. But deep down we always know that every day can be used for the same thing. As I also mentioned before, I might be more into it if I were a young man or had a girlfriend – maybe I would spend the day doing something romantic or going on dates and having some new experiences.
