Pilutaq Berthelsen, a runner, was named Athlete of the Year in Avannaata Municipality 2025 at a sports awards ceremony on January 31 in Ilulissat.

Pilutaq says that last year he completed 11 major races – among them the Siku Cross Uummannaq Marathon, Aasiaat Marathon and Polar Circle Challenge in Kangerlussuaq – and at the same time represented Greenland at the Island Games on the Orkney Islands in Scotland.
If the ice settles in Uummannaq, I might be able to compete in the Siku Cross Uummannaq Marathon – one of my favorite races. However, that depends on whether sponsors can be found, says Pilutaq.
