Ukaleq and Sondre Slettemark, ski talents, have just put an end to their last competition before the Winter Olympics. The sibling pair delivered a strong performance in the World Cup relay in the discipline Single Mix in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, where they finished 16th out of 24 teams.
The two Greenlanders completed the entire relay without having to go through the penalty round. Along the way, they were several times in the lead, around 12th place, but ended up in a great 16th place – ahead of nations such as the USA and Canada. This caused great excitement among the siblings.
– The Single Mix relay suits us really well, and it is a super fun competition. It is hectic, and the adrenaline is pumping through the body. It is also quite unpredictable, because the course is short, and the shooting is quite crucial. We are super satisfied with the result, not least because we beat the USA. We avoided going through penalty rounds, but otherwise our shooting was not entirely optimal. 12 extra shots to get the 40 targets down, we are not entirely satisfied with, but it just shows that we have the potential to get even higher on the results list when the shooting is better, the siblings state in a press release from the Greenland Biathlon Federation.
Now the trip continues to Obertilliach in Austria, where Ukaleq and Sondre Slettemark will spend the next 12 days honing their form ahead of the Winter Olympics.
