The Fitnessgl of the future is for everyone

Allan Juhl has returned as owner of Fitnessgl and is now working to realize a new vision of digital and accessible fitness throughout Greenland.

The new fitness center is springing up in Nuuk. Three storeys, state-of-the-art equipment and ambitions that reach far beyond the city borders.

Behind the venture is Allan Juhl – the man who has now taken over the management of Fitnessgl again.

On April 1st, he took over the company again, after a short ownership by Jens-Jakob Sandgreen. But for Allan Juhl, it is not about returning to the old. It is about building something new.

– It feels right to have Fitnessgl back home. But it is with a completely new vision, he says with a smile.

Fitness for everyone – no matter where you live

Allan Juhl is now working towards the opening of the new Fitnessgl in Nuuk in August. The center is under construction, and the ambitions are clear.

– We are in full swing with a large construction project next to Inussivik, which we call Nukissivik – it means strength, he says.

The upcoming center will be built on three floors with modern team halls and exclusively new equipment. But for Allan Juhl, the building is just the beginning. His vision extends far beyond Nuuk. Fitnessgl should be for everyone – even those who live in towns without a physical center.

– When I say fitness for everyone, I mean it. If you live in Qaqortoq, Paamiut or Upernavik, Fitnessgl is for you too, he says.

The core of the vision is technology. Allan Juhl is working on solutions where team training in Nuuk can be streamed directly to all of Greenland.

– With the options we have today, we can livestream training so that people can participate from home or from local fitness rooms and still be part of the community, he explains.

Allan dreams of being able to get on a spinning bike and connect to live-streamed training from Nuuk – no matter where you are in Greenland.

He also sees potential in smaller towns.

– I just went to Tasiilaq. There are ten spinning bikes, but no instructors. It is obvious that we can connect them to our group training, he says.

New target groups and new ideas

It is precisely this development that has led Allan Juhl to buy the company back.

– During the period when I did not own Fitnessgl, I had the opportunity to see it all from the outside. It has given me new ideas and made me think differently, he says.

In addition to live streaming, he is also working on developing new training offers that have a broader reach. Among other things, senior training for the “grey gold” and groups for women only. At the same time, the idea of what a fitness center can contain is being expanded. A sauna is also part of the plans.

– We need to create a place where people want to be. Where there is room for all needs and levels, says Allan Juhl.

Not all initiatives are ready for the opening in August. But the direction has been set.

When the doors open to the new center in Nuuk, it marks the beginning of a new phase for Fitnessgl – with ambitions that reach far beyond the city. However, it will hardly be celebrated with champagne.

– Maybe more with protein shakes and a red carpet, says Allan Juhl with a laugh.

But one thing is certain: Allan Juhl is back at the helm of Fitnessgl. And the vision is clear – it's for everyone.
