President of the United States continues his tough rhetoric about Greenland ahead of today's meeting between the USA, Greenland and Denmark in Washington.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump posted on his social media Truth Social, and here he repeats that the USA needs Greenland for reasons of national security.
In addition, he adds that Greenland is important for the project to establish the missile shield called Golden Dome, and that Nato should help the US take over Greenland:
- It is crucial for Golden Dom, which we are building. NATO should pave the way for us to get it (Greenland, ed.).
- If we don't do it, Russia or China will, and it won't happen, writes the president.
Trump: NATO is not effective without the US
The announcement from the president comes the day after the chairman of Naalakkersuisut Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D) stated with a seven-inch nail that Greenland in no way wants to become part of the United States.
But there are still no signs that the president acknowledges the message.
In his post, Donald Trump continues by writing that NATO is not effective in terms of strength or deterrence without the United States:
- They know that, and so do I. NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the USA. Anything less than that is unacceptable, says the president.
On Tuesday evening, Trump was confronted with the statements from Jens-Frederik Nielsen that Greenland does not want to be part of the United States.
To that Trump replied that he disagreed, and that he does not know who Jens-Frederik Nielsen is.
It is today at 13.30 Greenland time, that naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs Vivian Motzfeldt and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance.
