Greenland sends on Tuesday a clear signal to the US ahead of an important meeting on Wednesday at the White House according to senior researcher Ulrik Pram Gad.
If Greenland had to choose between the USA and Denmark, the head of government and chairman of Naalakkersuisut Jens-Frederik Nielsen would choose Denmark here and now.
It cannot be stated more clearly, according to the senior researcher from the Danish Institute for International Studies, Diis.
- It is primarily a signal to the US that you go into that room together and expect to come out again together, says Ulrik Pram Gad about the Danish and Greenlandic delegation, which will meet with the US on Wednesday.
He therefore believes that the announcements from the USA about wanting to take over Greenland, even though they are allies, have been counterproductive. Because Denmark and Greenland are shaken together more despite certain political and historical disagreements.
At a press conference on Tuesday in the Prime Minister's Office, Jens-Frederik Nielsen said it more clearly than he has done before.
- We are in a geopolitical crisis. If we have to choose between the USA and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose Nato, the Kingdom of Denmark and the EU, he said.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen called the support from Europe and Denmark "absolutely crucial".
Senior researcher Ulrik Pram Gad believes that it is very precisely worded.
- Their long-term plan is still to become independent, and they perceive what the US is doing as a threat, he says.
It is Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) and Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Motzfeldt who are traveling to the USA.
Here they meet with the vice president of the United States, J.D. Vance, and US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, at the White House in Washington D.C.
According to DR and TV2's information, the meeting will take place at 16.30 Danish time. However, it can move.
